What is Delhi Declaration? Why It Is being called A Historical Agreement

What Is Delhi Declaration?
The significant milestone achieved at the G20 Summit 2023 was held under the theme “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” or “One Earth, One Family, One Future”. The Delhi Declaration consists of 38 paragraphs which is referred to as a historic and groundbreaking moment. As per Amitabh Kant, India’s G20 Sherpa, this joint agreement covered all important issues including geopolitical issues and development. Kant congratulated the Indian Officials’ team and appreciated their effort and work in achieving the tough task.
The government of India believed that this declaration would leave an “Indian footprint” on the world. By referring to the Russia-Ukraine war, the G20 Summit 2023 has adopted a consensus agreement which is considered a historic moment. The reason for considering this as the biggest achievement is because, for the first time in history, a nation made a consensus agreement on a joint declaration without upsetting any members of the G20 Summit. This declaration was adopted on Saturday, 09th September 2023 and it is focused on the “Russia-Ukraine War” and other important points that include sustainable growth, geopolitical tensions and making an inclusive world.
This New Delhi Leader’s Declaration also covered major issues that include gender equality, climate change, Global Biofuel Alliance and one of the most important issues dealing with terrorism and food security. Several leaders and delegates of foreign countries welcomed this important development, and recognized the approach of the PM who emphasized human-centric proliferation. What made this declaration important was the joint agreement of all G20 members or countries among all 83 paras, including Russia and China. The declaration was the most inspiring and contained 112 outcomes.
Besides that, in the document, G20 members also understand the impact of the war on energy security, macro-financial stability, global food security, inflation, supply chain and growth. The declaration said on gender equality that they will work on gender equality and create a group that will work on women’s empowerment. The major priority of this group is to work on leadership, gender equality and women empowerment. Speaking about the issue of food security, the diplomats and leaders of G20 are aiming to remove malnutrition and hunger from the world.
The declaration also mentions the “Mission Life” (Lifestyle for Environment), which is a worldwide plan of action that focuses on saving plenty from the disastrous results of climate change. Another aim of climate change is to increase renewable energy capacity in the upcoming 7-8 years and they will be working to triple it by 2023. As per the declaration, “A Financial Inclusion Action Plan” has been made which aims to provide a chance for organizations to explore their present business operations and to work on potential future plans which will be helpful in providing financial support.
The Declaration also focuses on digital development more than the “cyber” agenda on crime and security. Moreover, On the 2nd day of the G20 Summit 2023, PM Modi introduced the Global Biofuels Alliance in the presence of the President of Brazil Luiz Inacio, Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, US President Joe Biden and the President of Argentina.
Apart from that, On the first day of the G20 Summit 2023, PM Modi made the biggest announcement by calling it G21 which means one more country is now part of the summit. The African Union is also part of G20 which is now known as G21. Another major agreement that happened for the first time in the summit is “UNGA 75/1 (UNSC reforms).
