International Women’s Day 2024: Special Gift To All Women

On the occasion of International Women’s Day 2024, the central government gives a special gift to all women of India. According to the reports, the government is taking the initiative to make insurance coverage available to all of India which will benefit women by addressing their unique needs and circumstances. This insurance coverage includes reproductive health services, maternity care, gender-specific illnesses coverage, breast cancer screening, and health check-ups.

Reproductive Health Services:

In the insurance coverage, the central government has included reproductive health services such as reproductive surgeries, fertility treatments, and contraception. The aim behind including these services in insurance is to empower women to make informed decisions about their family planning and health, improving the sex ratio of India and female mortality.

Maternity Coverage:

In the past 20 years, India’s maternal mortality rate has significantly decreased, falling from above 500 per lakh to 97 per lakh.1. In poorer states and rural areas with little access to institutional birthing, this number is far greater.  By offering prenatal and postnatal care, newborn care, and medical access for childbirth expenses, comprehensive maternity coverage can contribute to a decrease in maternal mortality. It also helps women through the pregnancy and delivery process.

Breast Cancer Screening and Treatment:

It is an undeniable fact that breast cancer is one of the most common leading causes of death in the world. Breast cancer has ranked number one cancer among Indian females with an age-adjusted rate as high as 25.8 per 100,000 women and a mortality of 12.7 per 100,000 women. Now in the latest customised insurance plans, the government of India is offering coverage for breast cancer screening, treatments, diagnostic tests and post-treatment care to ensure early detection of breast cancer so that it can be treated on time.

Women-specific Health Check-ups:

Preventive screenings, wellness initiatives catered to the specific health requirements of women, and routine health checkups can all be covered by insurance policies.

Gender-specific Illnesses Coverage:

In this coverage, the insurance policies include gender-specific illnesses such as endometriosis, cervical cancer, and ovarian cancer making sure that the person gets treatment on time to make a fast recovery.

Critical Illness Coverage:

For women facing significant health issues, comprehensive coverage for major conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and stroke can guarantee access to medical treatments and continuous care.

The government of India is also looking to increase the participation of women in the workspace. The Periodic Labour Force Survey for 2021-22 showcased that the Female labour force participation (FLFPR) rate in India has increased. It’s further highlighted that the working age group (15 years & above) has surged up to 32.8%. The latest insurance coverage not only covers health insurance but also includes coverage that will support women’s entrepreneurship. Insurance scheme coverage includes business interruption coverage plans that will boost the economy of India. Women’s income protection plans offer financial support for career breaks due to childbirth, caregiving, or health issues, while childcare support helps working mothers balance work and family responsibilities.
