Pichai Sundararajan was born on June 10, 1972, to  Raghunath Pichai, an electrical engineer, and Lakshmi, a stenographer in  Madurai, Tamil Nadu. Pichai and his family lived in a small apartment in Ashok Nagar, as a middle-class family of four. Pichai attended Jawahar Vidyalaya Senior Secondary School in Ashok Nagar, Chennai, and completed Class XII from Vana Vani School at IIT Madras. Pichai earned a Bachelor of Engineering degree in metallurgical engineering from IIT Kharagpur. He went on to acquire a M.S. degree from Stanford University in materials science and engineering, and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. At the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, he was named a Siebel Scholar and a Palmer Scholar, prestigious distinctions awarded to students demonstrating exceptional academic performance and leadership.

Sundar Pichai Salary and Career: 

Before becoming the Google CEO, Pichai was a Product Chief at Google. He started his journey with Applied Materials, a semiconductor equipment company based in California. He worked there as a product manager. After that, he joined McKinsey & Company as a management consultant, where he worked with clients in the technology and healthcare industries. He joined Google way back in 2004, as a product manager, working on Google’s search toolbar and web browser. When Google launched its web browser, Chrome in 2008, Sundar Pichai was made the project manager for Chrome. His management of the project earned him recognition within the company. He led the innovation efforts for a suite of Google’s client software products, including Google Chrome and ChromeOS, as well as Google Drive, Google Maps, Gmail, and Google Docs. Android, Google’s mobile operating system was also managed by him which went on to become the most widely used mobile platform in the world. In 2009, Sundar Pichai gave a demonstration of ChromeOS. The Chromebook was released for trial and testing in 2011, and released to the public in 2012. 

In 2013, Sundar Pichai was promoted to senior vice president of products, where he oversaw Google’s core products, including search, maps, and Google+. On October 24, 2015, Sundar Pichai took over his new position as the new CEO of Google and later went on to become the CEO of Alphabet in 2019. As CEO of Google, Pichai has overseen the development of new products and services, such as Google Assistant, Google Home, and Google Pixel. He has also made consistent efforts towards investing in the development of artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies.

As the CEO of Google’s parent company, Alphabet, Sundar Pichai Salary is USD 242 million i.e. Rs 1880 crores, annually. Pichai has a younger brother named Srinivasan Pichai. Sundar Pichai is married to Anjali Pichai, a chemical engineer from Kota, Rajasthan, who he met during his days at the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur. The couple has two children. Sundar Pichai has expressed his passion for the sport on several occasions. He is an avid fan of cricket and football.  Known for his humble and down-to-earth personality, Sundar Pichai is also a philanthropist. He makes regular donations to education and technology-related causes. Pichai announced a $12 million donation in 2020 to support organizations working to address the COVID-19 pandemic. Sundar Pichai received the Padma Bhushan in the category of Trade and Industry from the Government of India in 2022.
