The Unforgettable Contribution of Srinivasa Ramanujan: National Mathematics Day 2023

Several children feel mathematics is a tough subject as compared to other subjects. Hence, many of them usually don’t show their interest and always try to distance themselves. Many children even curse that person who brought this subject into academic studies but they forget that it is impossible to do anything in this world without math as everything is based on calculation. After Aryabhata, the man who is particularly associated with this subject is Srinivas Ramanujan. Today’s birth anniversary is also known as “National Mathematics Day 2023“.

From Middle-Class Origins to Mathematical Revolution: Srinivasa Ramanujan’s Story

Srinivasa Ramanujan’s contribution to mathematics is known to everyone and this could be the reason that his birthday is observed as “National Mathematics Day 2023”. Although he is no more between us the contribution he made is unforgettable and that is why every year we commemorate his birth anniversary. The birthdate of Srinivas Ramanujan who is also known as the “Father Of Mathematics” was designated in 2012 by the Manmohan Singh government. Since that year, the birth anniversary of Srinivas Ramanujan has been observed as National Mathematics Day. Even the year 2012 was also designated and commemorated as the National Mathematics Year.

The influence of Ramanujan in the field of mathematics is always an interesting subject among people and they want to know more about him as a person as well as his journey of becoming a “Father Of Mathematics”. The Father Of Mathematics was born in Erode, Tamil Nadu on 22nd December 1887. The Journey of Srinivasa Ramanujan is quite an inspiration for those who think the middle class can’t do anything because of financial issues. Born in a middle-class family, this man had brought a revolutionary change in mathematics. When he was just 12 years old, he developed his learning skills in Trigonometry and by 15, he got a copy of George Shoobridge Carr’s Synopsis of Elementary Results in Pure and Applied Mathematics.

Unveiling Srinivas Ramanujan’s Mathematical Genius and Impact

Srinivas Ramanujan’s contribution to mathematics has always been an interesting topic and his work has proved why he is called one of the greatest Indian mathematicians of all time. The contribution series of the Father of Mathematics is long and he is famous for his work in the areas of elliptic integrals, functional equations of the zeta function, hypergeometric series, and Riemann series. The first paper of Srinivas Ramanujan in the Journal of the Indian Mathematical Society was published in 1911. Cambridge University was impressed with his research and awarded him with a B.A. degree.

Despite facing poverty and difficulty in his childhood, he made his way and gave 4,000 original theorems to the world which we are still using to solve mathematics problems. His poverty had never become an obstacle in his life and even after his death, we are using his theories and teachings for study. Unfortunately, he died at a very young age of 32 and took his last breath on 26th April 1920. Speaking about the significance of National Mathematics Day, it is commemorated to spread awareness among the people about why the study of mathematics is important as well as to throw light on the contribution of Srinivas to the field of Mathematics.
