Perhaps life is a journey that entails failures but one must not stop in the middle and quit. Some people get to experience success in a single go, while it may take years for others to even get to the first step of achieving their dreams. As the results for UPSC 2023 were announced yesterday, the story of Kunal R. Virulkar came surfacing on social media, exhibiting the various struggles that he faced, yet he still couldn’t attain success. Taking to his X account, (formerly known as Twitter), Kunal shared a photo in which he was seen standing in front of the UPSC building. Below the photo, his photo had the caption “12 attempts, 7 mains, and 5 interviews. NO SELECTION. Shayad zindagi ka dusra naam hi sangharsh hai.”

Kunal’s tweet has been viewed by 2.1 million viewers and social media users have been pouring in love and motivation for him. IAS Officer Awanish Sharan wrote “More power to you Kunal,” while another user’s comment read “If perseverance had a face. More power to you @kunalrv.” Another comment had it saying “Salute to your dedication sir! Learned not to give up, you must have gained more knowledge than who got selected.#UPSC2023.” Amidst supportive words coming from people in favor of Kunal’s hard work, filmmaker Vinod Kapri added “This is heartbreaking but I must say What a journey man! What a character!! Your journey is so so inspiring.. More and more power to you.. Much love aap duniya me kuch behtar karne k liye bane ho.. God bless you.”

Kunal’s failure after several attempts has been taken as an example by many individuals, and his story is a testament to the fact that one must not give up even after being unsuccessful. This is yet another instance of learning the difficulty levels of such government examinations and fights that UPSC aspirants face on a daily basis. 

UPSC Exam Results

UPSC or Union Public Service Commission is an Indian Organization that conducts examinations to select eligible candidates who could fit in various administrative vacancies in all of India and Central services. The authority was established on October 1, 1926, and is headquartered in New Delhi. It conducts a national-level examination for 24 services that come under the Central and State Governments. The Commission is granted all responsibilities for recruiting candidates for civil services and posts under Article 320 of the Indian Constitution.

This year’s UPSC exam was cleared by a total of 1,016 candidates who hold the eligibility to be appointed to the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, Indian Police Service, and Central Services Group A and B. This year Aditya Shrivastava topped the examination with AIR Rank 1. Aditya graduated from IIT Kanpur and hails from Lucknow city of Uttar Pradesh. The Preliminary Exams of Civil Service were conducted on May 28, 2023. Following that, the UPSC Mains were held on September 15 16, 17, 23, and 24. The final process of the examination or the interview rounds took place from 2 January to 9 April 2024 in various phases.
