Arun Yogiraj : The Sculptor Behind the New Idol of Lord Rama

The Minister of Parliamentary Affairs of India has shared a social media post on the occasion of New Year which attracted the attention of millions of people. As per this post, a new idol will be installed in the holy city of Uttar Pradesh, Ayodhya. This post is circulating on social media platforms and people are looking to know about the sculptor of this new idol as well as the details of its installation. According to the post of Pralhad Joshi, Union Minister of India, “The selection of the idol for the Prana Pratishtapana of Lord Rama in Ayodhya has been finalized. The idol of Lord Rama, carved by renowned sculptor of our country Yogiraj Arun, will be installed in Ayodhya.” 

B S Yeddyurappa, the former Chief Minister of Karnataka has expressed his gratitude over the victory of famous sculptor, Arun Yogiraj. He congratulated the sculptor through his social media handle and made a post regarding it that reads, “The sculpture of Lord Rama sculpted by the sculptor Arun Yogiraj of Mysuru has been selected for installation in the magnificent Sri Rama Mandir of Ayodhya, which has doubled the pride and happiness of the entire Rama devotees of the state. Heartfelt congratulations to “Shilpi@ yogiraj_arun.” 

Arun Yogiraj – The Sculptor of The New Idol of Lord Rama

Famous Karnataka sculptor, Arun Yogiraj, has created the new idol of Lord Rama that has been finalized to be installed in Ayodhya. Belonging to a lineage of five generations in Mystore who are known for making sculptures, Arun Yogiraj has been honored with the selection for his idol. As we mentioned above, this new idol will be installed in Ram Temple. The demand for his idols has usually come from all around India and many renowned personalities have often appreciated him for his skill. 

Even the honorable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi has also acknowledged his talent. The distinguished features and skills of Arun have provided him with this honour. He is presently one of the most famous sculptors in India. Hailing from the lineage of renowned sculptors, he paved his steps in the world of sculpting at a very young age. No doubt, he is highly influenced by his father and grandfather, Yogiraj and Basavanna Shilpi who were patronized by Mysore’s King. 

Regardless of being quite educated, he decided to be a sculptor like his family. After completing his Master’s, he worked in a Multinational company but in 2008, he came back to his native place and started sculpting. He never imagined that his artistry would flourish in a way that he would get the honor of making iconic idols. His passion for art has provided him the glory and recolonisation from all around the country. He is also known for making a 12-foot tall idol of Adi Shankaracharya that is installed in Kedarnath and a 21-foot tall statue of Hanuman that is installed in his native state, Mysore.  

The New Idol of Ram Lalla

The selection of the installation of Lord Rama has been made after the counting of votes. Initially, three idols of Lord Rama were selected and out of these 3 idols, the sculpture of Arun Yogiraj got maximum votes on 30th December 2023. Trustees of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra closely examined all 3 idols and shared their opinions in written format to the trust. The 3 idols that were in the contest belong to renowned sculptures, Satya Narayan Pandey from Rajasthan, Arun Yogiraj and Ganesh Bhatt from Karnataka. 

The photos of the idol of Lord Rama were made public on Monday along with the details of its installation. As per the post of Union Minister, the new idol of Lord Rama will be installed on 22nd January 2024.
