Claudia Sheinbaum: The First President of Mexico
Claudia Sheinbaum, a climate scientist created history by becoming the first woman President of Mexico. Apart from owning the title of the first president she also becomes the first Jewish leader of Jewish heritage who will handle the responsibility of the office. Before being elected as President, she was the former mayor of Mexico City. Sheinbaum won the election with a huge number of votes compared to her opposition. Early results pointed out that the former Mayor of Mexico City prevailed with the highest number of voters and the most seats up for grabs.
As per preliminary results from the Mexican electoral office, the 61-year-old former Mayor bagged nearly 58% of the vote. Whereas the opposition candidate of Sheinbaum, Xochitl Galvez has received votes between 26.6% and 28.6 per cent. Xochitl Galvez was backed by a coalition of the National Action (PAN), Institutional Revolutionary (PRI) and Democratic Revolution (PRD) parties.
Jorge Alvarez Maynez of the Citizens’ Movement has got votes between 9.9% and 10.8%.
Speaking of the winning, Sheinbaum, a leftist, took the oath to continue the legacy of the current prez of Mexico and her mentor, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. Her victory was a resounding vote of confidence in him and the party he founded, even though many saw the election as a referendum on his leadership. It is worth noting that under the leadership of Lopez Obrador, the politics of Mexico has witnessed a significant transformation. The former President of Mexico has worked hard for its citizens and lifted millions of civilians out of poverty. During his tenure, he doubled the minimum wage of millions of Mexicans.
Speaking of the quick count results, the participation in the Presidential election of Mexico was between 58.9% and 61.7% of close to 100 million eligible voters. After winning the Presidential election, the first woman president of Mexico expressed her gratitude and addressed the citizens. She thanked the voters for their love and support and called her winning a historical moment. She said “For the first time in 200 years of the Republic, I will be elected as the first woman president of Mexico. We have achieved a plural, diverse and democratic Mexico.”
“Although many Mexicans do not fully agree with our project, we will have to walk in peace and harmony to continue building a fair and more prosperous Mexico,” she further included.
As per the Mexican electoral office, the party of Sheinbaum, Morena is expected to have a majority in the legislature. Morena party was also projected to hold a majority in both chambers of Congress.
The experience of the new elected President is sufficient to run a good administration. Armed with a doctorate in energy engineering, She participated in a UN panel of climate scientists and was acclaimed with the prestigious award “Nobel Peace Prize” and governed the capital. She is widely known as a demanding boss with reserved behaviour, she gained her popularity through the ranks by aligning herself entirely with Lopez Obrador. The former President congratulated the first woman President on her win.

He congratulated Sheinbaum through a video posted on X in which he stated “With all my affection and respect I congratulate Claudia Sheinbaum who came out victorious with an ample margin. She will be the first (female) President of Mexico… but also the President, possibly, with the most votes obtained in all of the history of our country.”
