Former President of India Pranab Mukherjee passes away at the age of 84

The army hospital in Delhi notified about the decline in the health of the former President Pranab Mukherjee.

Pranab Mukherjee, one of the elite politicians in India and the commendable former President, has died at 84. The recipient of Bharat Ratna was battling with a long illness as he tested positive for COVID-19 and was in a comma after a brain surgery earlier this month. Eminent leaders and people from different arenas are mourning over the unfortunate demise.

Abhijit Mukherjee, his son, tweeted, “With a Heavy Heart, this is to inform you that my father ShriPranab Mukherjee has just passed away inspite of the best efforts of Doctors of RR Hospital and prayers, duas and prarthanas from people throughout India! I thank all of You.”

This morning, the army hospital in Delhi had reported the deterioration in his condition. Reportedly, he had got into a septic shock due to his serious lung infection, the Army’s Research and Referral Hospital said.

On August 10, Mukherjee was hospitalized and had the surgery for the removal of a clot in the brain. Unfortunately, the virus had infected him as well, so he tested positive for the Coronavirus in hospital. “On a visit to the hospital for a separate procedure, I have tested positive for COVID-19 today. I request the people who came in contact with me in the last week, to please self-isolate and get tested for COVID-19,”Pranab Mukherjee tweeted.

The Congress leader developed a lung infection and renal dysfunction over the past few days, as per the doctors.

On Wednesday, the hospital stated Former President’s “renal parameters are slightly deranged”.

In the past few weeks, he received immense love and get-well-soon wishes from politicians from different parties.

Today, Prime Minister NarendraModi took his twitter and posted, “India grieves the passing away of Bharat RatnaShriPranab Mukherjee. He has left an indelible mark on the development trajectory of our nation. A scholar par excellence, a towering statesman, he was admired across the political spectrum and by all sections of society.”

Amit Shah also tweeted, “PranabDa’s life will always be cherished for his impeccable service and indelible contribution to our motherland. His demise has left a huge void in Indian polity. My sincerest condolences are with his family and followers on this irreparable loss. Om Shanti ShantiShanti.

Deeply anguished on the passing away of former President of India, Bharat RatnaShriPranab Mukherjee Ji. He was a vastly experienced leader who served the nation with utmost devotion. Pranabda’s distinguished career is a matter of great pride for the entire country.”

Pranab Mukherjee held the post of President from 2012 to 2017.

Lt. Mukherjee’s daughter reminisced the days when her father was honoured with the prestigious award Bharat Ratna.

“Last year August 8 was one of the happiest days for me as my dad received Bharat Ratna. Exactly a year later on August 10, he fell critically ill. May God do whatever is best for him and give me the strength to accept both joys and sorrows of life with equanimity. I sincerely thank all for their concerns,” she posted.
