Donald Trump attack: The Pennsylvania rally assassination attempt

The interview began with Elon Musk asking Trump about the assassination attempt at his Pennsylvania rally last month.

“You know, I’m a believer. Now I’m more of a believer, I think. And a lot of people have said that to me. A lot of great people have said that to me, actually. But it was, it was amazing that I happened to be turned just at that perfect angle,”- said Trump.

Elon Musk said in praise of Trump- “I just want to say that I think a lot of people admire your courage under fire there,” He even lightheartedly suggested that the charts, which prompted Trump to adjust his positioning moments before the gunshots rang out, had saved his life, to which former President joked-  “Illegal immigration saved my life,”

When asked about his thoughts on the reason behind the attack, he claimed that he was targeted because of his stand on immigration. The former U.S. President stated that he plans to go back in October to Butler, Pennsylvania, where he survived an assassination attempt on July 13.

Elon Musk-Donald Trump interview: His stand on the upcoming elections

The ‘unscripted’ interview went on for 2 hours and was joined by more than 1.3 million users. The Republican nominee took this opportunity to attack his Democratic rival Kamala Harris for the 2024 US presidential elections. To Trump’s convenience, he seized the limelight at a time when Kamala Harris has erased his lead in opinion polls, just weeks after she replaced Joe Biden in the race to the White House. Trump repeatedly mocked Kamala Harris as a “radical” Democrat who had “destroyed” California when she served as the state’s attorney general and later its senator.

Elon Musk-Donald Trump interview: The highlights of their chat

In the interview, the two talked about a range of topics. Donald Trump mocked concerns about climate change, to which Elon Musk, who famously left Trump’s presidential advisory councils in 2017 over the decision to withdraw from the Paris climate accords, did not challenge Trump’s remarks. The silence was surprising as it stood in contrast with Musk’s previous statements about ‘reducing the risk of catastrophic climate change with Tesla’.    Addressing climate change Trump stated, “The biggest threat is not global warming, where the ocean is going to rise one-eighth of an inch over the next 400 years, the biggest threat is nuclear warming.”

When asked about the war in Ukraine, Trump said- “Russia defeated Germany with us, and they defeated Napoleon. You know, they’ve been around a long time. They’re a big fighting force, and it’s very unfair … We’re in a very bad position. And I’m not going to blame, exclusively, but I can tell you, I could have stopped that.”

In a controversial statement, Donald Trump praised Russia, North Korea, and China heads saying that they are at the top of their game and the US needs a strong president to tackle them.

“(Vladimir) Putin, Kim Jong Un, Xi (Jinping), are at the top of their game,”.He stated that these leaders, who are often referred to as dictators, love their country, but “it is a different form of love”.

This interview could serve as a defining moment in Trump’s campaign ahead of the U.S. Presidential Election. Donald Trump returned to X on Monday before this interview, after a long hiatus.
