Paris Olympics 2024: Indian Olympian Manu Bhaker won a bronze medal at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris in the women’s 10-metre air pistol event. This was also India’s first medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.The women’s 10-metre air pistol finals took place on Sunday. Bhaker finished with a score of 221.7, securing the third rank.The match was a thrill ride for viewers as Bhaker rose to second place with a 10.3 until the penultimate shot, when Korea’s Kim Yeji surpassed her with a 10.5, precluding Bhaker from the gold shoot-off. South Korea’s Oh Ye-Jin, won the gold with a record 243.2.

On July 28, 2024, Manu Bhaker became the first Indian in 12 years to make it to the podium at the Olympics. The last time any Indian shooter was on the Olympics podium was at the London 2012 event where Vijay Kumar won a silver in rapid-fire pistol shooting and Gagan Narang secured a bronze in the 10m air rifle event.

This was a historic win for India as well as for Bhaker as this made her the first woman shooter from India to win a medal at any Olympics. Manu Bhaker also owns the title of the youngest Indian to win a gold at the ISSF World Cup.

The 2024 Summer Olympics will be taking place in Paris, France from 24 July to 11 August 2024, with the opening ceremony having taken place on 26 July. A total of 117 athletes from India are taking part in the Paris Olympics 2024 in 16 sports disciplines. Among these, there are 70 male and 47 female athletes.
Manu Bhaker Wins Bronze Medal at Paris Olympics
Born in a village named Goria of Jhajjar district, Haryana, Manu Bhaker is the daughter of Ram Kishan Bhaker, a chief engineer in the Merchant Navy. Her first international success came with winning the silver medal at the 2017 Asian Junior Championships. Bhaker then went on to win a gold medal in the Women’s 10-meter air pistol at the 2018 International Shooting Sport Federation World Cup. Before going into the 2024 Olympics, Bhaker had topped the national trials in the women’s 10m air pistol and the women’s 25m pistol. A total of 21 Indian shooters, including both men and women qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Manu Bhaker had previously appeared in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where she ranked 12th in 10m air pistol women with a score of 575 and 15th in 25m pistol women with a score of 582. She also ranked 7th in the 10m air pistol mixed team with a score of 582 in stage 1 and 380 in stage 2.
