The Indian cricketer, Hardik Pandya is not only known for his playing but for his controversy as well. Whether his infamous Koffee With Karan episode or his derogatory language against Mohammed Shami, he always  managed to be in controversy. One more controversy has been added in his list but this time the matter is pretty serious as this time he was slapped with a huge fine after the IPL code of conduct breach. However, he is not solely involved in this matter; the entire MI players including the captain Rohit Sharma are sharing the problem.

The performance of Mumbai Indians (MI) is already disturbing in  the ongoing Indian Premier League. The MI has lost seven matches so far and even in the last match which they played against Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday, 30 April 2024 concluded with their defeat. Soon after the captain Hardik along with all members of the playing XI were slapped with a fine for maintaining a slow over rate in the match. The reports added that Hardik Pandya was affected more with this fine as he needed to pay INR 24 lakh in form of fine whereas each member of the playing team needs to pay an INR 6 lakh in form of penalty.

This news has been officially shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This fine marks the second instance of such an offense by MI in the ongoing IPL, prompting a harsher penalty, especially for Hardik Pandya. In a released statement, IPL said, “Mr Hardik Pandya, Captain, Mumbai Indians has been fined his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 48 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Lucknow Super Giants at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on April 30, 2024.”

The statement included, “As it was his team’s second offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Pandya was fined ₹24 Lakh. The rest of the members of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either INR 6 Lac or 25 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser.”

Speaking of the penalty imposed on Hardik Pandya, it is the second time in the ongoing IPL when Pandya and his team was penalized for maintaining a slow-over rate and the amount of fine made on Pandya has been doubled. Earlier, Hardik Pandya was penalized with ₹12 lakh because of the same offence. However, this time, Hardik was penalized for breaching the IPL code of conduct.

The Poor Performance Of Mumbai Indians In Previous Match

On Tuesday night, 30 April 2024, Mumbai Indians locked horns against Lucknow Super Giants and just like previous matches, the MI team faced a loss. The team were restricted to 144/7 after being asked to bat by KL Rahul. The expectation from Rohit Sharma was pretty high but he also failed to impress the audience and merely scored 4 off five deliveries. MI’s poor performance helped their opposition to secure a comfortable win.

LSG won the match by 4 wickets. With the win in yesterday’s match, LSG successfully secured 3rd place on the Points table whereas MI is standing on the 9th position. Out of 9 matches, MI won only 3 matches. MI will play its next match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Friday, 3 May 2024 at the Wankhed
