18 coaches of the Mumbai-Howrah mail derailed in Seraikela-Kharsawan district of Jharkhand on early Tuesday morning

On Tuesday, July 30, 2024, the Mumbai-Howrah mail derailed at 3.45 AM near Badabamboo, around 80 km from Jamshedpur, under the Chakradhatpur Division of South East Railway. West Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Kuldeep Chaudhary, who is camping at the accident site, confirmed two persons were killed and 20 injured as 18 coaches of the train stumbled out of the tracks. He also said rescue operations and an NDRF team are underway to assist those affected.

Mumbai train accident

A local administration official said the 12810 Howrah-CSMT Express train accident was reported from Potobeda in the Kharsawan block of the Seraikela-Kharsawan district. 13 helpline numbers at three GRPs were announced by the West Bengal police on Tuesday following this derailment. Five of the 13 helpline numbers are at the Howrah GRPs, while five are at the Sealdah GRPs and the remaining three are at the Kharagpur GRP.

Mumbai Howrah train accident

According to South Eastern Railway, several trains have been disrupted due to the Mumbai train accident. Authorities and operations teams of multiple trains are working towards managing the situation and resuming normal services. 18 coaches of the 22-coach Howrah-CSMT Express were derailed, out of which 16 were passenger coaches, one power car, and one pantry car.

The Train accident today caused many other trains to be canceled or rescheduled. Here is the list of all trains affected by this railway accident.

08015/18019 Kharagpur-Jhargram-Dhanbad Express canceled for 30.07.2024.

12021/12022 Howrah-Barbil-Howrah Jan Shatabdi Express canceled for 30.07.2024.

18109 Tatanagar-Itwari Express canceled for 30.07.2024.

18030 Shalimar-LTT Express canceled for 30.07.2024.

18114 Bilaspur-Tatanagar Express will be short-terminated at Rourkela.

18190 Ernakulam-Tatanagar Express will be short-terminated at Chakradharpur.

18011 Howrah-Chakradharpur Express, will be short-terminated at Adra.

18110 Itwari-Tatanagar Express will be short-terminated at Bilaspur.

The injured passengers were provided medical aid in Barabamboo. Passengers who were severely injured were taken to Chakradharpur for better treatment. Widespread panic ensued among the passengers of the train at the time of the accident as most of them were sleeping when a loud noise and jolts were felt as several coaches derailed one after another.

Following this railway accident, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee raised the question, “I seriously ask: is this governance? This series of nightmares almost every week, this unending procession of deaths and injuries on railway tracks: for how long shall we tolerate this?”
