Neeraj Chopra wins Silver Medal in Paris Olympic 2024

Neeraj Chopra won silver in the men’s javelin final with an 89.45m throw, and Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem won gold with an Olympic record of 92.97m 

Paris Olympic 2024: On Thursday, August 8, 2024, Indian javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra secured silver in men’s javelin at the Paris Olympic 2024. He made an 89.45m throw, which became the second-best throw of his career with his 89.95m at the Stockholm Diamond League 2022 being his best. Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem won gold with an Olympic record of 92.97m throw. Neeraj Chopra became India’s first-ever Olympic gold medalist in athletics in 2020 when he won the gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 with a throw of 87.58m. 

Neeraj Chopra wins silver medal, becoming the fifth Indian athlete to win multiple medals at the Olympics. 

Neeraj Chopra became the first Indian track-and-field athlete to win two successive Olympic medals and the third Indian, after PV Sindhu and Sushil Kumar, to win individual Olympic medals at two different Games. Neeraj Chopra made a throw of 89.45m  in men’s javelin at the Paris Olympic 2024, surpassing his 87.58m gold-medal throw from Tokyo, and yet failed to grasp the Olympic gold due to a record of 92.97m throw by Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem. Nadeem became the first Pakistani to win an individual Olympic gold. This was the order reversal from the World Championships last year when Neeraj Chopra won gold and Arshad Nadeem won silver.

Neeraj Chopra javelin throw: The Golden Boy of India 

Hailing from  Khandra, Haryana, Neeraj Chopra was born in a family of 17 members on the 24th of December, 1997. He was a healthy kid and so his family enrolled him in a sports nursery at the Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex in Panchkula at the age of 14. Neerah Chopra is a Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Awardee and the Arjuna Awardee. He is also the recipient of the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal, and the fourth highest civilian honor i.e., Padma Shri. He was in first position in the men’s javelin throw rankings issued by World Athletics, in May of 2023.

Indians shower congratulations on X after the javelin throw Olympics

Several notable personalities of India took to X, to congratulate both Neeraj and Arshad for their performance. PM Narendra Modi heaped praises on Neeraj Chopra after his silver win at the Olympics in an X post saying- “Neeraj Chopra is excellence personified! Time and again he’s shown his brilliance. India is elated that he comes back with yet another Olympic success. Congratulations to him on winning the Silver. He will continue to motivate countless upcoming athletes to pursue their dreams and make our nation proud,” President Draupadi Murmu and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi too congratulated Neeraj.

Actor Randeep Hooda wrote on X- “You’ve set such high standards for yourself champ that even India’s highest medal in #Paris2024 #Silver seems lesser for you #NeerajChopra 👊🏽 it was just Arshad Nadeem’s Day. Congratulations to this great Pakistani athlete on his historic #OLYMPICRECORD #OlympicGames,” Indian cricketers Suresh Raina and Mohammad Shami send their wishes. Actors Ritesh Deshmukh and Sonu Sood too came forward with their wishes for the Javelin thrower.
