On Wednesday, August 4, Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong hosted Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a private dinner. Prime Minister Modi was received by Singaporean Minister for Home Affairs and Law K Shanmugham at the Changi Airport where the Indian community of Singapore gave the Prime Minister a warm welcome. Modi was hosted by Wong at Singapore’s Parliament House, where he signed the visitor’s book. This was ahead of their talks on Thursday, which are expected to drive cooperation in crucial areas such as digitalization, advanced manufacturing, and cybersecurity. This visit from the Indian Prime Minister aims to strengthen bilateral ties further. It is predicted that the two countries will sign several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) due to this visit. PM Modi is in Singapore for a two-day visit at Wong’s invitation. The two Prime ministers also met with ministers and representatives from both countries.

Modi in Singapore news: PM shares about his trip on social media

PM Modi took to the social media platform X and shared his joy in a post stating, “Happy to have met my friend, PM Lawrence Wong. Had an excellent discussion on a wide range of issues. India cherishes the friendship with Singapore.”. Prime Minister Wong also posted a picture of their meeting on X and welcomed PM Modi for dinner at the Istana, the official residence and office of Singapore’s president. In his X post, Wong wrote, “Welcome PM Narendra Modi to Singapore! Delighted to have the chance to catch up over a meal at the Istana, before the official meetings tomorrow.”

The ministerial roundtable between India and Singapore was referred to as a “path-breaking” mechanism by PM Modi. The talks featured mechanisms for cooperation in various sectors, including digitalization, advanced manufacturing, and cybersecurity between the two nations. Several Indian officials were present in this meeting including, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Secretary East, Ministry of External Affairs, Jaideep Mazumdar, and MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal among other officials.

Modi in Singapore: All about the two-day visit

This two-day visit from PM Modi is a packed schedule visit with numerous engagements. On Thursday, August 5, PM Modi is said to visit AEM Holdings Ltd’s semiconductor facility with Singapore’s Prime Minister, after a lunch hosted by Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong. His itinerary also includes meeting with Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. Before returning to Delhi, PM Modi will also attend a business meeting with CEOs of Singapore.

PM Modi visits Brunei

Prior to arriving in Singapore, PM Modi was on an official visit to Brunei during which he held “wide-ranging” talks with Brunei Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah at Istana Nurul Iman in Bandar Seri Begawan. Both leaders discussed ways to further cement bilateral ties between the two countries. PM Modi inaugurated the new Chancery of the High Commission of India in Brunei’s capital city, Bandar Seri Begawan on Tuesday. Prime Minister Modi also visited the Omar Ali Saifuddien Mosque in Bandar Seri Begawan on Tuesday as a part of his historic visit to Brunei.
