World Hindi Day 2024 : Things To Know about Vishwa Hindi Diwas

7000 languages are spoken all over the globe. Out of these languages, Hindi stands in the 3rd rank in the category of most spoken language in the world. As per the data, more than 602+ million use this language for conversation. Hindi which is written in the Devanagari script along with English is one of the 22 official languages of India. The incredible linguistic diversity of India describes the high rate of non-native speakers who use it as a lingua franca. In this regard, every year Hindi Diwas and World Hindi Day are celebrated all around the world.

What Is World Hindi Day 2024?

However, people often get confused between these two important days that are dedicated to appreciating one of the most spoken languages in the world. Those who are thinking of both days as one need to understand that both days are different and have different meanings. Hindi Diwas and World Hindi Day are celebrated on different days and the objectives are completely different although the meaning can be the same. Hindi Diwas is usually celebrated on 14th September every year whereas World Hindi Day is commemorated on 10th January every year. The World Hindi Day came into existence after the first World Hindi Conference that was held in 1975. 

The Theme Of World Hindi Day 2024

Since then, every year, it has been celebrated in the form of World Hindi Day. Every year, the theme of the anniversary of the first World Hindi Conference is different and this year, the theme of World Hindi Day 2024 is “Hindi-Bridging Traditional Knowledge and Artificial Intelligence.” The purpose of celebrating this day is to promote the Global Influence of the Hindi language. As mentioned above, the Hindi language is majorly spoken in Northern states of India like Haryana, Rajasthan,  Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Chattisgarh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Maharashtra, and also in some countries like Tobago, Nepal, Mauritius, Guyana, Fuji, Trinidad, and Suriname. 

It is worth noting that as per Article 343(1) of the Indian constitution, Hindi and English are the official languages in India. In order to spread the influence of the Hindi language, the 10th Jan serves as a day to commemorate and promote the use of Hindi in numerous spheres. This day aims to raise awareness about this beautiful language, to commemorate the contributions of Hindi writers and scholars as well as to promote its use. The celebration of this day started after the first World Hindi Conference was held in the state of Nagpur, Maharashtra in 1975.

The Celebration Of World Hindi Day 2024

The conference was integrated by the first woman Prime Minister of India, Indira Gandhi. At that time around 30 countries participated in this event. The former Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh officially marked the 10th of January as World Hindi Day in 2006. Since then, every year we celebrate this day by conducting several activities in schools and colleges such as quizzes, seminars and other contests. To increase the influence and importance of this language, spontaneous speech and essay competitions are also held. Not only educational institutions but government offices and embassies also celebrate this day.
