Ambassador 2.0: The Return of India’s Iconic Car After a Decade

The most awaited modification of India’s first car is finally returning to hit the Indian roads after a decade. The iconic Ambassador will be running on roads in the form of Ambassador 2.0. Why people were desperately waiting for this car is surely in the mind of a new generation as in the era of modern cars that are equipped with the latest techniques it is pretty tough to understand the love and respect for this car. 10 years back, the Ambassador car was the symbol of royalty, luxury and Rajasa. Most of the politicians used this car a decade back.

 But after 2014, this car was swiped away from the roads. However, 2 years back, one of India’s oldest car firms decided to bring back the era of the Ambassador car in the shape of Ambassador 2.0. Finally, the look of the new model of the vintage-looking Ambassador car designed by Hindustan Motors Ltd. is rolled out. Hindustan Motors bringing Ambassador 2.0 with a vision to boost its sales in one of the world’s fastest-growing car markets. 

The announcement regarding the same was made two years back. To bring life to “Wheels of India” Hindustan Motor Financial Corporation of India (HMCFI) and French Car maker Peugeot joined hands. Both the car-making companies are already working on the design and engine of the “Amby” to disclose a new avatar. According to the earlier report, the responsibility of making a new model of the iconic car is in the hands of the Chennai plant of Hindustan Motors (HM) operated by HMFCI. Uttam Bose, the director and MD of HM earlier told a media outlet that work was underway to bring out the “new look” Amby”. In a given interview, he said that “Mechanical and design work for the new engine has reached an advanced stage.” 

It is worth noting that in 2014, Hindustan Motors halted the production of the Ambassador car citing the reason of huge debt and lack of demand. After that in 2017, HM owners CK Birla Group sold the car brand to the French automaker in exchange for Rs 80 crore. In the latest development of this news, the images of Ambassador Car 2.0 have been recently rolled out and went viral on social media. It is currently trending on social media platforms and creating hype, however, it is not easy to purchase as the reports are suggesting that the pricing of the new model of Ambassador is pretty high. The reports suggest that the forthcoming A-segment Sedan with seating for up to 5 occupants. 

When Will Ambassador Car 2.0 Roll Out In Market?

It was earlier reported that the latest Ambassador model will be launched in the Indian market in August 2024 but now the latest reports are suggesting that it will be rolled out in December 2024. However, the company has not yet made any official announcement regarding its launch. It is assumed that the pricing of the new vintage model is between ₹40.00 lakh to ₹50.00 lakh. The classic car could come with the following 0 engine-transmission combinations.
