After being the first Indian Woman Shooter on the Olympic podium, Manu Bhaker creates history again as the first woman to win two medals in one Olympic game

Paris Olympics 2024: Indian Shooters Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh won a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics 2024 in the 10m air pistol team event at the shooting range at Chateauroux on Tuesday. On day four of the event, the duo went against the South Korean duo Oh Ye Jin and Wonho Lee to battle for the bronze. Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh won the match by 16 points to 10. This resulted in India winning its second medal in the Paris Olympics 2024 after Manu Bhaker won a bronze in shooting earlier this Sunday. This win served as India’s first-ever shooting team event and the sixth Olympic medal in shooting.

Manu Bhaker Wins Medal at Paris Olympics

Just two days before this 10m air pistol team event, Manu Bhaker had created history on Sunday, July 28, 2024, by becoming the first Indian Woman Shooter on the Olympic podium by claiming a bronze in the 10m air pistol event. On Tuesday, July 30, 2024, she created history by becoming the first woman to win two medals in the same Olympics and the first athlete of independent India to win two medals in one Olympic event.

After the match, Manu Bhaker spoke to the media and expressed her gratitude and joy. She said- “I’m feeling really proud and there is a lot of gratitude, thanks for all the blessings.” When asked about her thoughts on the neck-to-neck battle with the South Korean team, Bhaker stated – “Actually we can’t control what the rivals will do, we can do what is in our hands, me and my partner thought let’s just try our best and we will keep fighting till the end.”

This win marked shooter Sarabjot Singh’s first medal in the Paris Olympics 2024. Three days ago, the Indian shooter was going through a testing time trying to cope with the disappointment of losing the solo competition. He expressed how that experience led to him facing a lot of pressure to do well.

Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh had 19 of their 26 shots hit at least a 10 while Team South Korea had 12 shots hit a minimum of 10. Manu Bhaker started strong with a 10.2 on her opening shot. Sarabjot Singh’s first shot was of 8.6. Sarabjot took the last shot of 10.2 which secured India’s claim on the Bronze medal.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to X (formerly Twitter) to congratulate the duo. He posted- “Our shooters continue to make us proud! Congratulations to @realmanubhaker and Sarabjot Singh for winning the Bronze medal in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event at the #Olympics. Both of them have shown great skills and teamwork. India is incredibly delighted. For Manu, this is her second consecutive Olympic medal, showcasing her consistent excellence and dedication.”
